About Chemical Peels
Chemical Peels - For that young, medical spa glow! Great for acne!
Since ancient times, chemical peels have been performed to freshen the skin and bleach-away age spots, freckles, and other skin discolorations. Newer research has provided us with Alpha Hydroxy Acids. Of all of the alpha hydroxy acids, Glycolic Acid, found in the sugar cane plant, has the smallest molecular size, and is the most effective for lightening and toning skin. Glycolic Acid loosens the bonds between the dead skin cells at the surface layer and the live epidermis underneath, producing a smoother, younger looking complexion.
By increasing the turnover of cells, and exfoliation of the surface skin cells, Glycolic Acid peels are effective for decreasing the appearance of small wrinkles, reducing age and sun related hyperpigmentation, and unclogging pores to help control acne. Peels give the skin a healthy glow. They are an excellent treatment for ALL patients interested in reducing the signs of aging.
Glycolic acid works on the upper layer of the skin called "epidermis" to cause its normal shedding to become more even across the skin's surface. The most superficial layer of the epidermis is called the "keratin." This layer becomes more uniform and less clumpy after a peel, immediately giving the skin a smoother feel.
Scientific studies showed that for the best initial results, a series of three to six peels should be performed in sequence, approximately two weeks apart. In between the peels and afterwards, recommended products should be applied, usually twice each day, to increase the effectiveness of the peel. Maintenance peels are repeated during the year, depending upon the needs of one's skin. The latest findings recommend that more frequent peels yield better looking skin.
In most cases, the results of Glycolic Peels are visible after the 2nd or 3rd treatment. No anesthetic at all is required. Patients feel a tingling sensation on the skin during the peel procedure. Our technicians then perform a soothing facial massage, giving the patient an enjoyable, spa-like experience. Peels are virtually non-irritating. Enhancements Mineral Makeup, formulated for post-procedure use, can be applied immediately following the peel. Patients can return to work or other normal activities. No recuperation time is necessary.
For patients looking for more rapid results, Dr. Sackman recommends Fractional CO2 Laser Peels. Dr. Sackman was one of the first doctors on the East Coast to perform this procedure. He is an Instructor for the SmartXide DOT Laser. He has performed hundreds of Laser Skin Rejuvenation procedures since the early 1990's, when CO2 Lasers were first introduced. Laser treatments require at least 2 days of "down-time." Darker skinned clients are not eligible for Laser Peels, as skin discoloration can occur. Dr. Sackman will help you to decide which treatment is best for you.
